All Inclusives Resorts 101

So you have decided to take that vacation to the Caribbean or Mexico.  You know where and when you want to go; and while exploring were to stay during your vacation, you like the idea of going to an all-inclusive resort.  The idea of paying one fee for not just you room, but also for all your food, drink, activities, entertainment, and gratuities can be a great value.  But like everything in life, you need to know what you are paying for.  Each resort may have a different definition of what is included in the price you are paying.  In addition, you need to factor the quality, variety, and quantity of the amenities that the resort offers into your decision.  Below are some of the factors you should use to help you decide what all-inclusive resort will give you the best value for your vacation time and dollar.

WHO CAN GO: You really need to read to see if the resort is for families, some all inclusive resorts are for adults only.

SERVICE: Ok, let’s start with the basics; does the resort you are considering offer room service?  Is that available to all rooms or just suites?  Does it have daily room cleaning, and to what extent is that cleaning: total room cleaning or just changing the towels.

RESTAURANTS: The main benefit of staying at an all-inclusive resort is that all your meals are included in the price.  But for a 7 night stay, are their enough different restaurants on site so you will not get bored or do you want to spend $10 in taxi fare to go to a sister resort to eat.

FOOD: Going along with the above, what variety and quality of food is served at the resort.  Does the resort offer a buffet?  Do they serve local dishes and use local ingrediences?  Is the resort known for its 5 star dining experience?  Maybe you're not a family of foodies, does the resort offer enough options for regular fare to keep you happy for a week.

LIQUOR: One of the major marketing points that all-inclusives have is that most of them include all your alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in the price of your stay.  Does the resort off just local brands, or are premium quality brands offered.

WATER SPORTS: Is the resort  on the beach?  What water sports activities are offered by the resort, and are they included in the price you are paying or is the cost extra?  For example; Sandals/Beaches Resorts,  scuba diving is included in the price of your stay.  At many resorts an additional fee to scuba, can increase the total cost of your vacation by hundreds of dollars.

AMENITIES:  Does the resort have all the amenities and extra services you want?  Does it have a spa or a gym?  How many pools do they have, and are their adult only pools or areas.  What type of entertainment is offered? Do you want to golf? Is it included and where are the nearest courses?

All-inclusive resorts can be a great value and a great time.  Do your research carefully, or work with a travel professional, to help you to find a the resort that fits you and your family .
